India-Japan MSME Partnership Gains Momentum As IIA Holds Key Strategy Meeting In Noida To Boost Global Trade Opportunities
Lucknow: To enhance global prospects for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the Indian Industries Association (IIA) convened a significant strategy meeting with the Indo-Japan Chamber of Commerce in Greater Noida. This meeting was aimed at putting into action the recently signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two organizations.
This initiative builds upon agreements made between the Uttar Pradesh government and Japan, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s engagement with Japan serving as a major driving force behind efforts to strengthen international cooperation in the MSME sector.
Leadership and Strategic Goals
The meeting was chaired by IIA National President Dinesh Goyal, who highlighted the importance of aiding small businesses in overcoming funding challenges and gaining access to international markets. His goal is to enable MSMEs to take part in global trade and partnerships.
Goyal also recommended forming a steering committee to oversee the effective execution of the MoU, ensuring that the collaboration yields tangible benefits for participating enterprises.
Industrial Cluster Modernization and Sector Focus
Discussions centered on connecting industrial clusters in Uttar Pradesh with Japanese technologies and expertise. Aman Agrawal, chairman of the IIA Export Committee, presented plans to modernize key industries including chikankari textiles, food processing, handicrafts, leather, textiles, and defense manufacturing in cities like Lucknow, Barabanki, and Kanpur to meet international standards.
Attendees also addressed the enhancement of the wood carving and iron sectors in Saharanpur and Shamli through improved finishing techniques. In Moradabad and Sambhal, there was a focus on integrating Japanese automation into brass and handicraft production.
For Meerut’s sports goods industry, Sports Council president Sumnesh Agrawal emphasized ongoing efforts to improve product quality to satisfy global criteria.
Tourism, Hospitality, and Cluster-Based Development
Tourism and hospitality were key topics, with both organizations agreeing to promote cluster-based development and upgrade services at major religious and heritage sites. Target locations include Varanasi, Ayodhya, Prayagraj, Agra, and Mathura, aiming to align these sites with Japanese standards.
Geographical Expansion and Regional Impact
The partnership is expected to extend beyond Uttar Pradesh, generating opportunities in states such as Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Punjab, Haryana, and Bihar. It will also encompass the northeastern region, including Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, focusing on enhancing global market access for indigenous products.
Training and Capacity Building
Indo-Japan Chamber of Commerce Chairman Rahul Mishra stated that both parties agreed to implement Japanese training programs in areas like information technology, automation, and railway modernization. Plans are underway to provide training opportunities in Japan for young professionals and entrepreneurs.
