Maharashtra To Introduce Modern Skill Courses In Government ITIs From June, Focus On Digital & Solar Sectors
Mumbai: Maharashtra is set to launch new courses in government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and technical schools starting June. This initiative aims to address the evolving demands of various industries, announced Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Minister of Skill Development, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, on Sunday.
Focus on Emerging Sectors
The new courses are designed to equip students, particularly from rural areas, with skills relevant to rapidly growing sectors such as digital technology, cybersecurity, solar energy, and service industries.
Inauguration of New Facility in Kamthi
The announcement coincided with the inauguration of a new building for the Government ITI and Government Technical School in Kamthi, Nagpur district. Revenue Minister and Nagpur district guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule officially opened the facility.
Additionally, the institute was renamed to honor martyr Hemant Karkare, reflecting a commitment to inspire patriotism and a sense of duty among students, as guided by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Updating Skill Development to Match Industry Needs
Lodha emphasized that Maharashtra has attracted increased investments due to proactive policies such as easing business procedures. This has led to more employment opportunities in the industrial and technology sectors.
To ensure students remain aligned with these advancements, updated and demand-driven courses will be introduced in ITIs and technical schools, including the Kamthi institute.
Responding to requests by Bawankule, Lodha confirmed the introduction of new trades focusing on solar technology, equipment maintenance, and digital services. Regular monthly reviews will monitor Kamthi ITI’s progress with the goal of establishing it as a model training institute within the state.
Support and Encouragement for Students
Bawankule highlighted that shifting economic patterns have created new opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship. He stressed that expanding skill-based courses will enable rural youth to benefit from opportunities in industrial, service, and digital sectors.
He also announced a ₹4.5 crore grant from the district annual plan to support Kamthi ITI’s development. Bawankule encouraged students to focus on acquiring practical skills rather than just certification, emphasizing that continuous effort and eagerness to learn are essential for future success.
Notable Attendees and Future Plans
The event was attended by prominent figures including former MLA Deorao Radke, District Collector Kumar Ashirwad, Director of Vocational Education and Training Satish Suryawanshi, and other officials.
