Introduction

Parents constantly worry about the safety of their children, wondering if they have reached school safely or are secure throughout the day. Addressing these concerns, entrepreneur Abhishek Baheti pioneered a line of smartwatches designed specifically to keep kids safe while staying connected. This innovative approach blends safety features with technology to bring peace of mind to families across India.

Features That Focus on Safety and Connectivity

Unlike conventional Bluetooth smartwatches, Abhishek’s devices operate independently, prioritizing children’s safety and communication. These smartwatches include essential functions such as an activity tracker and a built-in music player, catering to children’s interests as well as safety needs.

  • GPS chip for real-time location tracking by parents
  • 4G calling capability enabling direct communication
  • SOS button for emergency situations
  • Sensors that alert parents if the watch is removed from the child’s wrist
  • An interactive object detection scanner to encourage learning

Abhishek explains, “Unlike Bluetooth smartwatches, this device works on its own. It was created with children’s safety and connection in mind.” He adds, “If your child lives in India but you are in another country, you can still video call your child. You can check their GPS location to see if they are within a safe area. It is a controlled device—a phone on your wrist.”

The Personal Story Behind the Idea

In 2010, Abhishek experienced a profound loss when his niece and paternal uncle succumbed to smoke inhalation during a house fire. Despite the presence of several family members, they could not summon help in time. This tragedy motivated Abhishek to create a device capable of alerting family members during emergencies, particularly benefiting children and older adults who may be vulnerable in such situations.

His travels to developing countries revealed a growing trend of wearable devices among young people, inspiring him to tailor smartwatches for the Indian market.

Smartwatches Designed for Independence

These smartwatches function independently of smartphones, making them especially suitable for children and elderly users who may not have access to or familiarity with mobile phones.

Jyotsana Jha, a mother from Dehradun, Uttarakhand, shares her experience: “It’s very useful. I needed a GPS device because my daughter goes to sports and tuition classes.” She adds, “This watch lets me listen to background sounds without my daughter knowing. This helps me know what’s happening around her.”

Jyotsana also highlights the advantage for working parents: “Since both parents are often working, kids stay with nannies or attend activities. These watches help keep them safe.”

Smartwatches for Senior Citizens

Addressing the needs of older adults, Abhishek developed smartwatches with health monitoring features. These watches track vital signs including body temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen levels using built-in sensors.

He explains, “My parents live in Surat, and I stay in Mumbai. This watch lets me monitor their body temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen levels through sensors.” The device also includes an anti-fall alarm that notifies caretakers in case of slips or falls.

“Usually, parents don’t say what they need. This watch helps us understand their health better,” Abhishek states.

Comfort and usability are also priorities. The watches use soft, breathable silicone bands suitable for all-day wear. Audio and video calls remain functional even if the watch is not worn but remains nearby.

Winning Support on Shark Tank India

Recently, Abhishek and his nephew Divyajeet, the fire survivor, appeared on Shark Tank India Season 2. The panel was moved by their story, with prominent entrepreneurs Vineeta Singh and Anupam Mittal offering Rs 1 crore for 10 percent equity as well as a Rs 1 crore loan at 15 percent interest.

Abhishek recalls, “Presenting to the sharks was nerve-racking but went well. They gave us tips on growing our market. After the show, our sales tripled.”

He acknowledges a common startup challenge: “Before becoming a brand, it is hard to sell products. Shark Tank gave us the exposure we needed.”

Current Success and Future Plans

To date, over 3,000 people across India use these smartwatches. Last month alone, Abhishek received 1,000 orders.

Pricing ranges from Rs 6,000 to Rs 10,000 for children’s watches, while watches designed for seniors are around Rs 7,000.

Abhishek shares plans for upcoming models: “The watch’s usefulness adds to its value. The market changes fast. Soon, we will reduce costs. Our next model will be priced near Rs 4,999.”
