Dr. Uma’s unwavering commitment to providing free education has transformed the lives of thousands of street children near Chennai. Starting with a Vision to Educate
In 2003, when many people ignored children begging on the streets, Dr. Uma chose to help. She began Siragu Montessori School, located 40 kilometers from Chennai. The school started with only 30 students and had no steady funding at that time. It was free for all children. Dr. Uma believed that education should be a right for everyone, not a privilege.
Rebuilding After a Fire
The school faced a major challenge when a fire destroyed the entire building. Despite this setback, classes began again within two days. This quick recovery showed the strong commitment of Dr. Uma and her team.

Growing Impact
Today, Siragu Montessori School has more than 400 students. So far, over 2,500 children have studied there free of charge. Many graduates have gone on to work as engineers, technicians, and teachers. This success shows how important the school has become in the lives of these children.
Facing Financial Struggles Every Month
Running the school is not easy. Each month brings new challenges. The school does not charge any fees, so there is no regular income to pay teachers or buy food and books. Despite this, Dr. Uma continues to provide free education. She believes that education is not charity but a matter of human dignity.
