Developing new semiconductor chips demands substantial financial investment and time. Sheth revealed that D-Matrix has secured close to $500 million in funding to sustain its operations through the lengthy development cycle. He explained that hardware companies commonly require extensive capital infusions prior to generating meaningful revenue.

Sheth’s extensive experience in the semiconductor sector—including his early career as a chip engineer at Intel and founding a prior business that achieved approximately $3 billion in revenue—has been instrumental in building investor confidence for D-Matrix.

What India Needs to Boost AI Growth

Sid Sheth examined India’s current landscape in artificial intelligence, noting that while the country excels at developing AI applications and constructing models, it faces challenges related to research capacity and access to computing resources.

He argued that the fundamental driver for AI growth in India is enhanced infrastructure. Key areas for development include rapid expansion of data centers, increased energy availability, provision of adequate cooling resources such as water, and regulatory frameworks that facilitate swift scaling of computing power.

Addressing startups focused on deep technology in India, Sheth encouraged founders to adopt a global perspective on fundraising. He stressed that securing investments at the scale required for cutting-edge hardware innovation often necessitates tapping into international capital markets rather than relying solely on domestic funding sources.
