Meghana Gorukanti Jupally, the founder of Meru International School, has taken a significant step in bridging the education gap for children of migrant construction workers by launching a daycare center named Meru Aveksha.

In India, it’s a common sight to see children living on construction sites with limited access to education. Despite coming from different parts of the country, these children are often deprived of basic schooling opportunities.

This challenge led to the inception of Meru Aveksha, a daycare center that aims to integrate these children into mainstream education and provide them with a safe and nurturing environment for learning.

One of the key driving forces behind this initiative was a senior employee at My Home Constructions who was deeply moved by the sight of children not attending school and being left unattended at construction sites.

Partnering with Meghana Gorukanti Jupally, the team embarked on creating Meru Aveksha, which caters to over 150 children aged from infants to 12-year-olds across three centers in Hyderabad.

The Meru Aveksha team identified the lack of facilities for these children during the day, which hindered their access to mainstream education due to the absence of basic identification documents.

By establishing daycare centers at construction sites, equipped with play areas, classrooms, and a tailored curriculum, Meru Aveksha provides a structured learning environment focusing on languages, numeracy, physical activities, arts, and hygiene skills.

Convincing parents of the benefits of early education was a significant challenge, but through consistent efforts and interventions, children began attending the centers regularly.

The Basics of Early Childhood Education

Each Meru Aveksha center is staffed with caretakers and qualified educators who follow a curriculum designed to enhance learning outcomes and cater to individual learning levels.

The holistic approach adopted by Meru Aveksha has not only improved academic performance but also positively impacted children’s behavioral and socio-emotional development.

The initiative aims to expand its model to other real estate developers, advocating for the establishment of daycare centers at all construction sites to further support the education of underprivileged children.
