WORLD MSME Day 2023: On the 27th of June, 2023, the Ministry of MSME is celebrating the ‘Udyami Bharat-MSME Day’

World Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSME) Day is celebrated annually on June 27th to recognize and celebrate the contribution of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises to the global economy and to raise awareness about the importance of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in promoting economic growth, employment generation, and decrease poverty.

In India, The Ministry of MSME is celebrating ‘Udyami Bharat-MSME Day‘ on 27th June 2023 at vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. Union Minister for MSME, Shri Narayan Rane, will be the Chief Guest and Union Minister of State (MSME), Shri Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma will be the Guest of Honour.

On the occasion of World MSME Day 2023, The Ministry of MSME is introducing new initiatives to help MSMEs grow and develop. These initiatives include:

  • CHAMPIONS 2.0 Portal and Mobile App (Geo-tagging of cluster projects and technology centers)
  • MSME Idea Hackathon 2.0 Results
  • Launch MSME Idea Hackathon 3.0 for women entrepreneurs
  • Distribute certificates to Gold and Silver ZED-certified MSMEs
  • digitally transfer Rs. 400 crores as a subsidy to 10,075 PMEGP (Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme) beneficiaries

Furthermore, the program will involve the signing of MoUs among various government organizations in India.

The United Nations General Assembly established World MSME Day 2023 to raise public awareness of their contribution to sustainable development and the global economy, and to strengthen the SMEs so that they are viable in times of crisis.

For World MSME Day 2023, the International Trade Centre will celebrate small entrepreneurs from all over the world, highlighting their role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that MSMEs can contribute under the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development and goals. Some examples are given below:

  • No Poverty – MSMEs can help reduce poverty through job creation and economic growth, which are key drivers of employment, decent jobs, and entrepreneurship for women & youth.
  • Gender Equality – MSMEs can promote gender equality by providing equal opportunities for women and men in employment, training, and entrepreneurship.
  • Decent Work and Economic Growth – MSMEs are key drivers of employment and economic growth, and can contribute to the creation of decent jobs.
  • Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure – MSMEs can drive innovation and contribute to the development of sustainable infrastructure.
  • Reduced Inequalities – MSMEs can help reduce inequalities by providing employment and economic opportunities to marginalized groups.
  • Responsible Consumption and Production – MSMEs can contribute to responsible consumption and production by adopting sustainable practices and promoting sustainable products and services.
  • Climate Action – MSMEs can contribute to climate action by adopting sustainable practices and promoting sustainable products and services that reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

World MSME Day 2023 has evolved to become a global celebration of the contribution of MSMEs to the global economy and a platform for supporting their growth and development. The day is celebrated globally through various events and activities, and the International Council for Small Business played a significant role in its establishment.
